Workforce Privacy Network Information
The Workforce Privacy Network is a collaborative community for sharing information about privacy and security in the workplace providing guidance to employers. We are an affinity group of the International Association for Human Resource Information Management The mission of IHRIM’s Workforce Privacy Network is: • To promote awareness and understanding of the privacy and security issues involved in the collection and use of personal information by employers; • To provide a forum for, and contribute to, the development of best practices by employers in the areas of privacy and security; and • To represent IHRIM in building a community of interest and cooperation with other associations, organizations and governmental entities in realizing practical and effective privacy and security protection in the workplace. The terms "privacy" and "security" encompass many concepts. For purposes of this web site and the resulting work of the IHRIM Workforce Privacy Network the following general statements of scope apply: Privacy - the sensitivity that organizations demonstrate through actions, attitudes, policy, and practice toward the collection and use of personally-identifiable information about individuals. Areas of influence include: public opinion, legislation, regulation, technology, marketplace conditions, and other factors which may effect the expectations that individuals have regarding their own privacy and/or impact how organizations collect and use their personal information. Security - the methods, tools, media, and actions that an organization uses to capture, store, manage, and disseminate information about individuals as well as the use of such information to ensure physical and workplace security. Areas of influence include: best practices, technology advances and evaluation, policy development, and other factors which may affect an organization's ability to appropriately protect information about individuals.
